Two compact discs with krithis on Sri Kamakshi Swarajathi and on Goddess Sri Saraswathy were released at a function organised under the auspices of Tiruchi Sangeethopasana Group in the city on Sunday.
While the CD on Sri Kamakshi Swarajathi had five compositions of Sri Shyama Sastrigal, the second one had nine krithis on Goddess Saraswathy composed by Muthuswami Dikshitar.
S.Ravindran, secretary, Saranathan College of Engineering, who released the first set of discs, said that music creates eternal peace and joy in both the singer and the listener. Receiving the CD, K.N. Ranganatha Sharma, professor in music, S.S.S.V.College of Music, Madurai, appreciated the efforts taken by noted vocalist Ambujam Vedantham and her disciples in preparing the CD. R.Thayumanavan, noted mridangam vidwan, spoke on the contributions made by Sri Shyama Sastrigal and Sri Dikshitar in utilising music as a tool for realising eternal peace and divine grace. Young disciples and upcoming artistes should emulate the example set by eminent artistes in handling various ragams, he said.
Aishwarya Madhavan, Padmashree Srinivasan, Jaya Mathangi Sankar, Jaya Bhargavi Sankar, and Vivardhani Ramamoorthy had rendered the krithis to the accompaniment of T.S.Ramapriya and G.Nagarajan on the violin and mridangam respectively.
Ms.Ambujam Vedantham said that Dikshitar’s compositions in a few rare ragams had been selected for the compilation.
