Minister for Information and Public Relations Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Tuesday directed the Anantapur Government Medical College authorities to immediately initiate action against erring teaching faculty in the college.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that nine members of the teaching faculty in the college were not present during his surprise check on the functioning of the college. “They (the nine members) are neither on leave nor present in the college. This is callous attitude on the part of the college administration. I have directed that acton be initiated against the erring staff,” said Mr. Reddy asserting that the government would not tolerate complacency in running the government medical colleges and hospitals, as people would be the ultimate losers.
Finding out that the college suffered from a lack of teaching and helping staff, he promised that he would take up the matter with the Health Minister and ensure that necessary staff was posted at the earliest. “The government attaches great importance to public health and would upgrade the existing infrastructure in the State wherever inadequacies are found, to ensure that the poor did not suffer from lack of facilities in government hospitals, forcing them to visit private hospitals,” Mr. Reddy said.
